By Katrina Vassell - This afternoon (9-17) DHS cheerleaders supported our football team at its opening game against Fairfield Ludlowe. With new coaches Lauren Moore and Ashley Tiscia at the helm, the team is planning for a successful season. The team also hopes to be seen in a new light and gain respect as a DHS sport.
“All of the girls have been working hard, and we’re excited for a rewarding season this year,” said Coach Tiscia. Coach Tiscia and Coach Moore began as cheerleaders at Stamford High School and dreamed of having their own team. After pursuing cheerleading in college, they embraced the opportunity to coach DHS.
Senior captains Jordan Irizarry, Claire Linegar, Hannah Carmody, and Cameron Luttrell all hope on improving the team in both stunting and dance. The program is expanding and has over 26 cheerleaders this fall season. Now, there are enough bodies to attempt new stunts with success. The team is planning on embracing each athlete to craft new and unique routines for future games and competitions.
