Juniors Lia Barsanti, Amanda Bieler, Natalie Grune, and Olivia
Piazza were named captains of the 2013 Girls Swim and Dive team on Tuesday. They
will be replacing seniors Caroline Ashcraft, Olivia Leunis, Caroline Orem, and
Claire Treesh.
In the 2012 season, the team won the FCIAC, CIAC, and State
Open titles. “Everyone had great passion and we shared the same goals, which I
think led to us winning all three championship meets,” Grune said. Bieler
agreed that it was a team effort, saying, “Everyone who swam in the meets did a
great job, especially the freshman and sophomores who had spots to fill.”
Despite graduating five seniors, the 2013 season will not be
a rebuilding year for the team. “Our team is incredibly close and talented…and
next year will bring new [swimmers and divers] who will make the team just as
good,” Piazza said. “Next year we’re definitely going to go for defending our
triple crown title.”
This may not
seem like an easy task, but the new captains are ready to work hard and lead
the team to accomplish this goal. “After working so hard to get to the top, we
will do anything and everything to stay there,” Barsanti said.
Neirad congratulates
the captains on their achievements and wishes the best of luck to the 2013 Girls
Swim and Dive Team.
