By Caroline McKay
On Saturday, February 23, the Darien High School Girls
Gymnastics team competed in States at Pomperaug High School in Southbury,
Connecticut. Season scores ranked the girls sixteenth in the state going into
the meet. “We were seeded sixth, but finished seventh in the class M division.
We had a strong meet, but we were missing one of our varsity members due to
injury,” said senior captain Caroline Congdon.
DHS finished with a total of 123.05 points. Daniel Hand High
School won the class M division with 139.275 points, and Wilton was a close
second with 135.925 points. Congdon felt the girls were best on bars. Sophomore
Sam Gunn “had a strong performance, especially on bars,” Congdon added. Gunn
qualified for State Opens, where she will be competing on bars and vault this
Friday, March 1st, in New Milford.
