Darien Beats the Madhatters

Brianna Lyons

Just like the lyrics go “ all I do is win, win, win no matter what” (song by Ludacris), Darien girls soccer takes the win against the crazy mad hatters of Danbury, Connecticut. Waking up at 7:30 to make a bus that left at 9:00, the Varsity and Jv Soccer team made their way to the home of the Mad Hatters to play games that started at 11:00. With barely any sleep, and a long bus ride, the beginning of an FCIAC qualifying game began.

For Varsity, the game started off very good. Scoring 4 goals in total and having an incredible display of teamwork and effort. You could see that Varsity wanted to win. They fought till the very end, ending the game with a win. This will be Varsities 6th game this season and they are on trek to finishing what lasts years varsity team started. Meaning winning both states and FCIACs for the first time in girl’s soccer history. With the team’s strong defensive line and attacking line up, the Varsity girl’s soccer team is set to have a fantastic season.

Unfortunately, the Jv soccer team did not have as much luck with the fierce, fighting Mad Hatters. They did not lose, but they did not win either. Jv tied 0 to 0 in their game vs. Danbury, causing their tieing streak to continue. With their 4 games ending in ties, the Jv team is ready to win their fifth game against Stanford. Fortunately, the team had some good luck during the second half, when Danbury scored, but it was called as an off sides play. Darien also had suffered through refs calling everything on them, and nothing for the other team. Definitely, Danbury refs with a grudge against Darien.

“ The opportunities where their, we just could not find the back of the net. It was a tough one. “ Jane Keleghan, a sophomore, said.

“We attacked, just could not get the ball in the back of the net.” Alexis Lyons, a freshman, said.

Both teams are set to play Stamford at Darien on Tuesday.
