Darien girl hockey has skated to States with a big win over arch rival New Canaan on Saturday. Before this game, the Darien Girl's Hockey team had lost to its top competitor New Canaan twice making them the underdogs. "Both teams were evenly matched, this game was all up to whoever was at their best," freshmen player Sara Shaker said. The Blue Wave pulled forward in the second period as freshmen Emily Tropsa scored the first goal with an assist from fellow freshmen Rachael Klein. The Blue Wave continued to dominate in the third period with another goal from sophomore Emma Tuz. New Canaan came back with a goal in the middle of the third period, making it once again a close game. However, Darien managed to hold them off making the girls the first ever FCIACs champions and making them the first Darien Girls Hockey team to beat New Canaan. The season continues to be promising as they look to win States. We all wish them luck on this already very successful season.
