The Darien girls varsity basketball team played the Lady Lions of Bassick on Monday February 16th. The Wave crushed the Lady Lions 21-65. The Bassick program, did not have enough players to field a freshman or Junior Varsity team. Bassick could not stop the quickness of Junior Captain Liz Calby, scoring many of her points off of fastbreaks. Darien pressed for most of the game, once the team stopped the full court press, the Darien fans started to clap. It was a great win to end the home games for the season.
The team goes into their final game of the season on the road at Trumbull High School with a record of 3-16. The team will close the season with a below average record, but being very young and only graduating a couple seniors, there is much room for improvement in years to come. Next year's freshman class has a record of 15-5 going into a Boston Tournament this friday. This incoming talent should help give the team a needed boost next year.
