Boys JV
baseball players can finally start practicing for the upcoming season now that
tryouts ended yesterday, Tuesday, March 20. The short, two-day tryout resulted
in many veteran sophomore baseball players being cut. However, the team’s
future still looks bright.
Only two
players from last year’s freshman team decided not to try out again this year. Brain
Davey, one of the team’s all-star outfielders, has decided to run track. Patrick Nelson, a second baseman for the freshman
baseball team last year also decided not to tryout and is instead playing
tennis. The baseball team will surely miss these two valuable players.
Luckily,
the team saw one new sophomore face this year. Dylan Carruthers decided to
tryout for the team and is most likely going to be the starting second baseman
for JV.
Luckily,
the team has a lot of returning talent. The team certainly has no shortage of
shortstops: Bobby Fitzpatrick and Brendan Donohue both play shortstop and are
two of the team’s best players. Fitzpatrick and Donohue are looking forward to
the upcoming season. “I am optimistic about the upcoming season,” Fitzpatrick
said. “The team has a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see where we will be
within the next few years.”
“So far
the team looks great,” Brendan Donohue said after the second tryout. “I think
that we are going to have another great season this year.”
The team
also has an amazing center fielder. Sophomore Cameron Smith is unstoppable in
center field and is also an amazing pitcher. Smith has a mean fastball that
leaves batters having to go back into their dugout.
Behind
the plate this year for the JV team is Kevin Love. Love is able to stop
everything and has a great arm. Love can easily throw out anyone who is trying
to steal from first base to second.
The team
also has a great variety of hitters. Brendan Donohue and Bobby Fitzpatrick are
both speedy contact hitters who are always good for a single or double.
Sophomore Andrew Nault is one of the team’s strongest hitters. Nault is also a
great pitcher. Cameron Smith is another one of the team’s power hitters.
The
future of the Boys JV baseball team looks bright. The team certainly has a
variety of talent, and is expected to win some big games this year. Baseball fans
at the high school, make sure that you keep and eye out for the JV baseball
team.
