The Darien High School Boys Volleyball team is coming off another strong season and looks to keep the success going this year. Long time coach Laurie LaRusso led her team to yet another FCIAC championship, as well as a State Championship run, where the team unfortunately lost to an undefeated Ridgefield. Only losing three times in the past season, the Wave returns a solid crop of talent. Besides losing a star in Todd Herget, the team has a lot of skill in its’ junior class, a group that has been playing together on Varsity for two years. This class looks to lead the charge this season, as the team’s roster consists of almost only juniors, they are going to be a big part of the team's success.
The Wave has plenty of talent up and down the roster, starting with junior behemoth and captain Alex Preston. Preston, who is listed at 6’ 8’’, looks to be a force this season, utilizing his size to be the anchor for this team. Junior Tim Herget, also a captain, isn’t as tall as Preston but will provide speed and agility for the wave. Tim, the younger brother of ex-star Todd Herget has been a part of the program since his freshman year and looks to be a leader this season. Other key player will be senior Haydan Nackley. Nackley, the only senior on the team, will also look to provide leadership for this squad. This team’s collection of young talent is hungry for another successful season of Blue Wave Volleyball.
As the team has lost strong players such as Todd Herget (in air), juniors like his younger brother Tim (left), will need to step up this season (Darien Times). |
