Girls Relay Team Breaks School Record at FCIACS
-By: McKinley Stauffer-
The girls’ track and field team came in second place on Thursday (2/3) at the FCIAC Championships at the New Haven Athletic Center. Before arriving in New Haven, Coach Steven Norris told the girls this year’s team had the potential to win this meet and he encouraged each girl to do their part. With this pump-up speech in mind, the team as a whole scored roughly 15 points higher than it was predicted to achieve. One of the greatest races was the 4 by 800, the first race of the day. (winners pictured below) This relay consisted of senior captain Amanda Dobler, junior Katie Donovan, freshman Dillon Schoen, and sophomore Grace Loh. Each girl ran her leg in under 2:30, the final time being 9:47.83 minutes. Besides finishing in first and making the first FCIAC team, the girls were within a few seconds of breaking the 4 by 800 record. “We were all really focused and determined to win,” Loh said. Throughout the season, more than 23 girls qualified for one or more events at the State level.
