On Monday, March 6th, the Darien Blue Wave took on the West Haven Blue Devils in the first round of the state tournament for basketball. The first half was very sloppy by both teams with little points and a lot of turnovers. West Haven took a 22-16 lead into the half, but early in the third quarter Darien was able to erase the deficit. The game was back and forth for most of the third, but once the Blue Wave were able to settle into their game they started to get a big lead. Zak Swetye’s lights out shooting and Jack Richter’s hustle on both sides of the ball propelled Darien into the lead. In the fourth quarter Darien outscored the Blue Devils 32-12, with 10 of those points coming from Theo Moore. Alex Preston also had a strong night with 21 points. The 54 point second half was enough for the Blue Wave to move on to the next round of the playoffs.
The Wave play #4 East Hartford on Wednesday. This will be an away game for Darien, but they look to carry their momentum from the big win. Come support Darien Basketball on Wednesday in East Hartford as they look to add to one of the best seasons the team has ever seen.
