Three Darien High School students-Camilla Kline, Katie Chidley, and Sarah Hoyt-competed with their synchronized swimming team, the New Canaan Y Aquianas at the East Zone Invitational meet March 10-12, and swept the competition. This was an important meet for the Aquianas as Chidley expressed that, “it qualifies [the team] for nationals so it is understandably imperative that [they] do [their] best”.
In their combo team routine, Kline, Chidley, Hoyt, and teammates placed first out of ten routines. Their winning streak only continued as Kline and Chidley, swimming as part of the A Team, went on to take 1st place again this time competing against 16 other team routines. Hoyt, swimming with the B Team took sixth place, placing within the top half of the competing routines.
In small routines, Chidley and her duet partner, Alex Poteet, placed second out of twenty-six other duets and Chidley on to make the East Zone All Star team.
The Aquianas’ team succeeded in making it to Nationals and will continue training for the meet which takes place in April in Arizona.
