Girls Track Wins FCIAC
By Conciatori, Kyra
On Tuesday, May 22, the Darien High School Girls outdoor track team captured first place at the FCIAC meet in Danbury. The day was a long and tiring one for the athletes--it began at 11:45 am when they were released early from school and ended with a bus ride back to DHS around 8 pm. The weather was less than appealing, with sporadic intervals of pouring rain, but the team only proved to shine despite the gray skies. Sophomore Jessica Thornbury was the star of the pole vaulting event, successfully clearing ten feet. Junior Grace Loh placed 3rd in both the 1600m and the 800m, with times of 5:15 and 2:22, respectively. Freshman Catherine Lacy took home 1st in the high jump and long jump along with 3rd place in the 200m. The team will compete again in Middletown next Tuesday, May 29th, at States.
