This past week, the Girls Varsity
Tennis team played two matches. On the Monday following Spring Break, Varsity
was put to the challenge, scheduled to play rivalry New Canaan. With a tough
3-4 loss, it was one of the closer matches they’ve played so far this season. This
match was especially important for freshmen Pia Teschner, who played the
deciding match. It was an extremely close game, Teschner losing 6-3 in the 3rd
set. Number 3 doubles team, senior Abby Becker and junior Kathryn Herz, won 6-2
4-1 after New Canaan retired. Freshmen Erika Gill and sophomore Claire Kelley
also won both their matches.
Their
next match was played on Tuesday April 24th. The team took away an
easy win, beating Stamford 7-0. Two days later, the girls challenged Trinity
Catholic School at home. The final score was 6-0. Due to inclement weather, the
last game of the match was cancelled.
“Greenwich
and New Canaan are the teams to beat for us. We haven't done it in a while, but we always look forward to
the tough competition,” junior Sarah Alptekin said.
With several new players and many more matches to go, the
Varsity team is looking towards a successful spring season.
