Girls Lacrosse lose in Pre-Season games

By Shelby Penfield - The Darien Girls Varsity Lacrosse team went up against Chatham and Yorktown in a scrimmage this past Saturday. The girls were able to start the season off well even though they were defeated by both opposing teams. Darien lost to Yorktown by one goal and to Chatham by three. With Chatham being one of the top ranked teams in the Northeast, DHS did very well for their first game of the season. The secret to Chatham’s success is their eight juniors who have already committed to Division 1 schools for lacrosse. The team also has had more practice and games this season, with their game against Darien being the seventh game played so far. Yorktown as well has already had about three weeks of games and practices. With more playing time, Darien will surely catch up to these opponents sometime during the season. Despite the loss, Darien’s defensive players played an especially good game, it overall being “a great start to the season”, according to senior goalie Claire Dickson. Be sure to check out the team’s next game at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, where they will have an away game against Hotchkiss.
