Wave Puck Falls Just Short of NDWH

By Anthony DiMeglio

On Monday night at 6pm, Darien faced off against Notre Dame - West Haven.  This game is considered to be one of the best games of the year, mainly because it is usually a tight game.  This was the case on Monday night, as it was back and forth all game long.

NDWH came out strong and was first to score early in the first. However, soon after Junior Jake Kirby added a goal for Darien, making it 1-1.  Darien was outshot 16-8 early on in the in the game, but started to pick up the pace later on in the game.

Early in the second, NDWH was able to find the back of the net making it 2-1 but again Darien responded with a Power Play slap shot goal coming from the stick of Senior Nick Tuzinkiewicz.

NDWH’s offense proved to be a little too much for Darien to handle early in the game, and they were never able to completely outplay their opponent.  Late in the third period NDWH was able to find the back of the net as the puck trickled in after some deflections.

While wave puck may have lost, some may consider this to be a wake up call for the rest of the season.  “Overall it was a tough loss, they were a good team but we know we can play better.  They set the tempo early and we ended up chasing them for most of the game.  To beat quality teams like this we have to come out strong, and we just didn’t do that early on,” said senior Aidan Loh.

Good luck to the Hockey team with the rest of their season!
