House Basketball Power Rankings: 11th and 12th Grade League

By Jay Alter:
(supporting writers: Jack Rehm and Darius Majd)

1. Mavericks – An extremely balanced senior-laden team. Tyler Pruden (senior) is one of the best big men in the league, Rick Miller and Rupert Hansford (seniors) can handle the ball in the backcourt, and Sam Nelson and Parker Lange (seniors) are strong outside shooters. Watch out for Lange, who was a Varsity player before stopping to focus on crew. Also watch out for the underrated Kevin Keller (senior), who excels on defense and in transition. (Record: 1-0, Last Result: W 60-58 vs. Nuggets)

2. Thunder – An all-junior team for the exception of Sammy Bocuzzi. They were dominant this past weekend, as Tony Britton (junior) led the way with an eye-popping 29 points. Juniors Jack Rehm, Cal Kevorkian, and Bryan Previte (pictured) are all great supporting players. Rehm is a versatile and explosive player; Kevorkian is an agile guard; Previte can hit clutch threes.

3. Spurs – Another team with major senior contributions. Not lacking for offense, but definitely a more defensive team. Ben Preston (senior) is a great inside scorer and rebounder, and the best shot blocker in the league. Andrew Hurn (senior) can also crash the boards. Guards, Graham Maybell and Alex “Elmo” McGuire (seniors) can push the ball in transition and put pressure on opposing teams. (Record: 1-0, Last Result: W 41-34 vs. Rockets)

4. Timberwolves – A team with some great scorers, but not much scoring depth. John Foster (senior) and Jay Alter (junior) can put up points in a hurry. Zach Sherwood (senior) and Dillon Duncan (junior) can also score, but are even better at rebounding. Nicky Neville (junior) is another player to watch. (Record: 1-0, Last Result: W 45-25 vs. Trailblazers)

5. Lakers – This team is more centered around juniors than the Mavericks, led by strong shooters Luke Osherow and Bobby Weaver (another former varsity player). Brandon Coley (senior) is an athletic forward who can score and rebound, and Chris Carmody (senior) is a good ball-handler and streaky shooter. (Record: 1-0, Last Result: W 41-34 vs. Celtics)

6. Nuggets – A strong team that is led by Max Reyes (senior), who is a starter at KLHT, and is known for his speed and ability to take the ball to the hoop. Justin Pryor, senior, and Malcolm Willis, senior, should be able to add points as supporting players to Reyes. Ex-A team travel player, Reed Coots, is making his triumphant return to the court, and can be a force inside if he plays to his ability. (Record: 0-1, Last Result: L 58-60 vs. Mavericks)

7. Celtics – This team has two outstanding players in senior lax stud, Eric Parnon, and Brunswick speed demon, Jack Voigt. They have senior support in Alex Bruno and Evan Rodgers. However, they started off slow only putting up 34 points as a team but as the season progresses look for this team to start to rise up the rankings. (Record: 0-1, Last Result: L 34-41 vs. Lakers)

8. Rockets – Another team that is relying on their junior class, led by GFA bench presence, Eric Walsh, and tall, agile, lefty, Bobby Minion, they will have to put the team on their back if they want to win any games. They also have good athletes and size with Justin Coley (senior) and Peter McDonough (senior) who are coming off a remarkable football season. Also, providing much needed defense and rebounding is Jamie Condolora and Ryan Minion. (Juniors) (Record: 0-1, Last Result: L 34-41 vs. Spurs)

9. Suns – A short team that relies heavily on their guard play, led by Thomas Carruthers, Billy Siemers, (juniors) and Tommy Farren (senior). They got completely dominated by Tony Britton and the Thunder and if they want to see improvement, big men, Ryan Barthold (junior) and Mason Barron (senior) need to step up. (Record: 0-1, Last Result: L 35-66 vs. Thunder)

10. Trailblazers – It boils down to this team is just not good. They put up a league-worst, 25 points, and really show no promise. Juniors, Russell Palmer and James Burgoyne, are in for a long year unless they can start playing up to the caliber that is this league. (Record: 0-1, Last Result: 25-45 vs. Timberwolves)
