Darien High School was quite a scene on Saturday (5/8) when the girls lacrosse team played Farmingdale on Darien Youth Lacrosse day. Accompanied by a fifth-grade raffle winner and mascot for the day, the girls ran out of a tunnel made of upcoming high school laxers, face paint and an intense atmosphere: the game was on. The excitement didn’t lend itself to a DHS victory. The five-game winning streak ended with a 10-18 loss to the Long Island team, Farmingdale. The game started out strong, with the Wave girls scoring the first goal in the first minute, but the Dalers were right behind them, scoring right away. There were plenty of pushes and shoves, but the Wave girls didn’t prove to be as aggressive as the Dalers. The game was close for almost the whole first half, but Wave began to lose it as Farmingdale racked up the score towards the end of the first half.
The girls played hard, but in the end Coach Lindley’s main message was that they didn’t have enough heart. Let’s hope that they can find it for their final FCIAC game on Tuesday (5/11) against Brien McMahon in Norwalk.
