Girls varsity lacrosse had an unexpected upset against Wilton in the FCIAC semifinals Monday. (5/24) The night game on the New Canaan High School stadium turf and ended with a loss of 17-16. The game lasted longer than expected after it went into overtime. With two three- minute halves, Wilton was able to score against DHS. However, in the latter three-minute half, DHS shot back with another goal. Eventually the game went into sudden death where Wilton pulled through and scored with seconds remaining, claiming victory for the FCIAC semifinals.
Seniors Liz Calby, Cali Ceglarski and freshman Taylor Hardison were the star shooters. Hardison had four goals and scored the last goal on Wilton with nine seconds remaining, leading DHS and Wilton to overtime. On defense, seniors Paige Gasparino and Leanne Stone were able to keep Wilton’s offense from pounding goals on DHS; however there weren’t many turnovers in the game. "Getting the draws was key. Whichever team got the draw was the one that scored," said junior Emma Tuz, one of the varsity players
The DHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse is no longer participating in the FCIAC finals however the team looks to further compete in States. The game dates are to be announced.
