In a highly anticipated match up with rival New Canaan this weekend, the Darien boys' lacrosse team overcame a shaky start and pulled away for a dominant home victory. Down 3-1 after one quarter, the Blue Wave went on an 8-0 run that stretched into the fourth quarter on Saturday(5/1). It was a balanced effort, the offensive starters, plus junior defenseman Eric Parnon scoring. Midfielders senior Bryan Annechino and junior Graham Maybell led the way, scoring three and two goals a piece. Senior attachman Brian Gleason also notched two goals. But it was the defense, led by senior Andrew West, which keyed the victory. Looking at times impenetrable, the Darien D caused turnovers and took New Canaan out of their offensive rhythm. At 9-2 overall and 8-0 in the FCIAC, Darien is in good position to get a high seed in the FCIAC and state tournaments. The Blue Wave is back in action on Tuesday, (5/4) with a 4pm home game vs. Fairfield Warde.
