James Burgoyne, senior captain of
the varsity golf team, sunk a hole-in-one against Danbury on Wednesday. James
aced the fifth hole at Richter Park in Danbury, leading the DHS golf team to a
decisive victory against Danbury High School. What makes this even more
impressive is that this was not James’ first hole-in-one. “This was actually my third
hole-in-one,” James said.
The fifth hole at Richter Park is a
difficult par three that is all over water. The backside of the green is
slopped down towards the hole and James was also forced to adjust to the strong
winds in his face. “I
landed the ball on the top of the slope and watched it roll back down the hill
into the cup,” James said.
James and his teammate Andrew Morgan had a long
celebration on the tee box once they saw the ball roll into the hole. “When the
ball went in I kind of yelled and pumped the air and hugged my teammate Andrew
Morgan who was also going wild.” The Danbury players whom James played against also
joined in on the celebration. “Even the Danbury kids we were playing with went
pretty nuts,” James added.
James could not take his mind off of his hole-in-one for the
remaining four holes left to play. “I kind of had a hard time focusing on my
round after that,” James said. However, it is understandable for someone to
lose their concentration after sinking a shot that most golfers only dream of
making.
Captain James Burgoyne is undoubtedly one of the best golfers on
the DHS golf team. The team’s future looks bright if James’ continues to step
up and make great shots like this.
