On Sunday (4/1), the Blue Wave Rugby team defeated Staples 10-7 at Royle School. Senior Captain Christian Watson and senior Brian Love scored the Blue Wave’s two tries. For those illiterate in rugby, a try is rugby’s equivalent of a touchdown. Each try is worth five points, and after each try, an extra point kick is attempted. Darien missed both extra point kicks, leaving the door open for a Staples comeback. However, the Wave held off Staples for the final six minutes, led by senior Captain Oscar Parsons and senior Stephen Wildish. The Wave improved to 1-1 on the season, after falling to rugby powerhouse Fairfield Prep last week. As of Monday morning, the Wave will take on Simsbury at Royal on Saturday, April 7th. However, be sure to check http://www.darienrugby.org/ for up-to-date information on upcoming matches.
