The Blue Wave softball team shut out St. Joe's on Monday
(4/9) 8-0 after a tough 3-0 loss in a state game against Masuk on Saturday
(4/7). Darien’s offense was shut down by Masuk’s flawless defense and solid
pitching, but the bats came alive on Monday to produce eight runs. It was a
team victory with the defense only allowing St. Joe's to have one hit, which
came on a hanging change-up in the top of the sixth inning. Offensively there
were many contributors: sophomore Julia Domiziano drove in the first three runs
of the game, junior Brittany Osborn drove in runs with a single and double,
senior Courtney Bell had an RBI single, and senior Kelly Fahey went 3-4 on the
day with two doubles and a single that drove in runs. Senior Olivia Gozdz hit a
two run homer in the top of the sixth inning for the final two runs. The team
hopes that this offensive explosion will continue in the coming games as the
Blue Wave have tough opponents for the rest of the week. The Blue Wave will be
home against Trumbull today (4/11) at 4pm and away against rival
Westhill Friday (4/13) at 4pm.
