The Girls’
Varsity Soccer fought valiantly against Danbury last Friday (Sept 26), managing
to leave Danbury High School with a scoreless draw. This season has been a bit
of the struggle for the team because of the loss of last year’s seniors, but
they’ve been able to cope with the loss with a huge number of skilled
underclassmen.
The team
came into the game with two wins, two losses, and a draw, but were building a
lot of momentum from their previous matches against Wilton and Norwalk. Danbury on the other hand, had a record of
three wins and two losses. The match was
bound to be a difficult one for both teams entering the game, but each
confident that they could pull out the win.
The match
was a constant back and forth battle between the two, as the Blue Wave managed
to fire off a massive twelve shots, but were not able to capitalize on any of
the shots as the Danbury goalkeeper kept strong throughout the match. Junior goalkeeper Katie Fiore had a rather
quiet day in net, but preserved the draw with three saves.
In a post-game interview, senior captain Kendra Fitzpatrick said, “It was a great
game, as Danbury is a very good team.
Although we tied, we are happy with the result.”
