Wave Soccer Beats Trinity Catholic 7-0

by James Fox

Last Tuesday afternoon, the Darien Boys Varsity Soccer team took on Trinity Catholic at home.  Darien dominated possession from the start, allowing zero shots on target the entire first half.  Sophomore striker Harrison Gill began the scoring with an early goal, and went on to score a hat trick, giving him his first varsity hat trick and making him the first varsity player to do so this season.  Other goal scorers include seniors Owen Beringer and Said Mammadov, and junior Andrew Mathew, who scored a penalty drawn by captain Michael Maccarone, who was taken out in the box after a long run down the right wing.  In the end, Darien scored a total of seven goals, making it the team’s highest scoring game this season.  By the time the game was over Trinity Catholic had recorded only two shots on net, with junior goalie Liam Rischmann making saves to ensure a shutout.

When asked about the game, senior John Mackie said, “We definitely played really well as a team.  We were able to put some goals in the back of the net, and by the second half get everyone on the team some time on the field.  Overall I’d say we had a very good time.”

You can catch Boys Varsity Soccer this Monday at 4:00 as they take on Stamford High.
