Darien High School Girls Track Finish Strong

By Elizabeth Moore

Darien High School Girls Track ended the season with a banquet this past Thursday, on February 27th. The entire team had an excellent season with many strong runners, bringing an incredible ending to the season. Current captains Grace Loh, Sophie Long, Eleanor Smith, and Elizabeth Heaney were very proud of their team and led the girls through a very successful season. Coach Norris, Coach Ott, Couch Crawford, Coach Long, and Coach Bartol supported the girls and gave them all the encouragement that they needed to improve while having a good time.
When asked what a major highlight of the season was, Captain Eleanor Smith said, “The Triple Crown was definitely a highlight, it was measure of our efforts this winter so it was great knowing that all the practice paid off for everyone. Also winning States was huge too, last year we won but then were told the next day that there was a scoring error and we had actually placed second. We were all pretty happy to be able to come back and take the title!”  Grace Loh also said that this season has been historically their best ever. She continued by telling how the girls won fciac east, fciacs, state class l’s, and state opens (for the first time ever). All the Captains are extremely proud and are looking forward to seeing another strong season next winter.
With this season ending, the Captains each ended the banquet with a speech before introducing the new captains for next year. Leah Hotchkiss, Catherine Lacy, Dillon Schoen, and Brittany Henry were voted for by their team to lead next season’s team. They were all very excited and grateful to be chosen for such a meaningful position. Both current captains and future captains exchanged hugs and posed for many pictures taken by excited parents and friends.
