Blue Wave girl’s
ice hockey added another win to its season when they closely beat Greenwich 1-0
in an away game on Monday January 9th. “Greenwich
definitely has improved from last year” senior Sara Shaker said. They game was very suspenseful as the two
teams were evenly matched and each made many attempts on goal. There were no
goals in the first period but several shots on goal were made by sophomore
Ellie Bennett and senior Sara Shaker. During the second period, several
attempts were blocked by sophomore goalie Shannon Hall. No goals were made
during the second period either. A few minutes into the third period, Shaker
scored Darien’s first and only goal of the game bringing the score to 1-0. Near
the end of the period, Bennett scored, but the goal was taken back due to an
offside play leaving the score still at 1-0. “We weren't
playing our best in the first two periods but we stepped it up in the third and
came out stronger,” Shaker said. The Blue Wave showed its full strength
during the end of the third period and pulled off a 1-0 win over Greenwich.
