Only three minutes
into the Girls Hockey game last night (1/12) Ridgefield scored a goal making
the audience worry about how the game would continue. Offensive player senior Sara
Shaker proved to Ridgefield the strength that Darien holds on the ice. Shaker
was strong in her stick work and passed several of Ridgefield's defensive players with her speed work. Goalie sophomore Shannon Hall (pictured above) saved
several attempts from Ridgefield offensive player Meg Galloway. However, after
the second period Ridgefield had scored another goal making it 2-0. Shortly
into the third period, Shaker showed her powers on the ice by scoring Darien’s
first and only goal in the third period. It seemed as if the tables were turned
after the second period break but Hall struggled to keep out a goal when a
Ridgefield offensive player tapped it in. The game ended as 3-1 Ridgefield but
was a well-played game from the Darien first strings.
To see the girls
in action check out the next game on Wednesday (1/18) against Greenwich at the
Darien Ice Rink.
Senior
Eric Kanigan cheers on the Darien Girls Ice Hockey team.
