Girls House Basketball in Full Swing
By Marguerite Morgan - The Darien Girls House Basketball League had an exciting game Sunday evening when the Bears defeated the Hoosiers 22 to 21. The Bears started off to a strong start, up 11 to 4 yet junior Morgan Sawitsky from the Hoosiers retaliated quickly with two baskets within seconds of each other. Senior Caitlin Lyden made a shot from the left side of the key on the halftime buzzer putting the Bears further in the lead. The Hoosiers quickly came back tying up the score 14 to 14 with 7 minutes 48 seconds left on the clock. Bears player junior Mara Donoghue brought the ball down the court passing it off to senior Carly Renaud for the basket and Lyden followed up this lead with a lay up and a foul shot. Senior Alexa Carrol from the Hoosiers retaliated with a three-point basket. Lyden fouled out of the game and Hoosier’s Sawitsky made another 2 shots putting the Hoosiers in the lead by one point. The Hoosiers attempted to keep possession of the ball to run out the clock but Carrol fouled. Junior Sloane Palmer from the Bears made a basket putting the Bears in the lead 22 to 21 with ten seconds left. The Hoosiers failed to make a comeback and the Bears celebrated their tough win. Come watch any of the Girls House Basketball teams face off next Saturday afternoon!
