The Girls’ Outdoor track team participated in the annual
O’Grady Relays invitational meet at Danbury this past Saturday 4/27.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t come away with a victory. The meet is a mix-up of normal outdoor
track events, medleys, and the steeplechase: a 2000 m course through obstacles,
jumps, and lots of splashes. The DMR (Distance medley relay) which placed 2nd
last year, finished in 7th yesterday. Junior Alex Ford, who ran the 1600M
in the DMR said despite their times, “it’s fun because the events are so
different, and there were a lot more relays which is great because it gives the
sport more of a team mentality.”
Perhaps the race to watch was the steeplechase, which
seniors Katie Farren and Sarah Colon and sophomore Anne Johnston ran. Farren
and Colon finished close together around 8 minutes, with Colon winning the
heat. Johnston even qualified for
nationals!
Recovery is spare for girls’ track as they head up to
Fairfield Warde on Monday to battle St. Joes.
