On Friday, December 28th, the Darien Boys
Basketball team faced off against New Canaan in their last game of the La Vista
Tournament. Darien earned its second win
by beating New Canaan 61-47.
Darien led the whole game, playing great defense in the
first half and eventually leading New Canaan by 18. Everybody got involved in this game and the
standouts were senior George Philips, who played a great game with some solid
defense and and aggressive offensive production, including two dunks on the
break. Senior Chima Azuonwu protected the rim, grabbed rebounds, and had a few
dunks, and senior captain Matt Staubi led them once again on offense with 23
points and 7 assists.
“We had a lot of energy and a lot of confidence at the start
of the game which led to a lot of communicating on defense and good teamwork,
and we were able to get a lot of buckets inside and on the fast break early,
which gave us the huge first half boost being up by 18 at half. We just have to stay hungry and continue to play
together like we did, and we will be able to keep up that performance for the
rest of the year and compete against ANY team,” Staubi said after the game.
The Wave’s next home game is Friday, January 10th against Brien
McMahon at home.
