On Friday, January 10, the Blue Wave Junior Varsity Boys
Hockey team was supposed to take on Hamden’s JV Boys Hockey team but it got
cancelled. However, the Blue Wave JV team got to scrimmage the Winter Club
instead. The game was held at Chelsea Piers in Stamford at 7:15 pm.
The first period was scoreless. Both teams could not place
the puck in the back of the net. Darien had many opportunities but could not
finish. The defense on both sides was
solid too, making it hard for shots to be taken.
At the 5:32 mark in the second period the Winter Club
scored. Darien was down by one and started to dominate the game but could not
seem to finish any of their opportunities. They out-passed and out-skated the
Winter Club but could not seem to benefit from the other team's mistakes. The
Winter Club scored again with only 1:44 left in the half, making the score 2-0.
Six minutes into the third and final period of the game, the
Winter Club scored again. Darien was
struggling to put the puck in the back of the net. With 10 seconds to go in the
game the Winter Club scored to make the final score 4-0 and give the Blue Wave
Boys JV team a tough loss.
Junior Peter Grant said, "We did not show up to the
game like we should have, making us unable to capitalize on the opportunities
we got."
Come watch the Junior Varsity Boys Hockey team as they
battle against Hamden at their home rink on Saturday, January 18th at 2:30pm.
