Varsity Field Hockey Wins the FCIAC Championship

By Erinn Ravosa

On Friday November 1st, Darien field hockey took on Wilton in the FCIAC’s final game. Both teams came out extremely strong and ready to play, each hungry for the win. Wilton was especially fired up, as the team had never won the FCIAC for field hockey before. They understandingly wanted to win the championship for the first time.
As the minutes of first half began to dwindle, Darien became frantic and allowed Wilton a few corners. Fortunately, senior goalie Danika Hornik was there to stop the shots.
Blood pressures rose as the game entered the second half as a tied game. Darien had a few timeouts, during which the coach, Mo Minicus, told the team so stay calm and play their game. And as the game began to wind down, Darien did just that. The players outran the Warriors, made great passes, and kept the shots firing. With three minutes left on the clock, Darien was granted a corner. After the initial pass out of the circle, the ball sailed towards the goal-cage. Just as a Wilton player was about to intercept the ball, sophomore Marissa Baker cut in front her and made a perfect pass to sophomore Georgia Cassidy.  Cassidy was able to get the ball past the goalie, making the score 1-0. The crowd of people from the County went crazy.
After the game, junior Rebecca Demaio said, “The game was so intense and both teams came out on fire. We really played our hearts out and it was an exhilarating win.”
