Girls Volleyball Wins First Round of States Against Southington

By Caroline McKay

At 7:00 on Thursday, November 7th, the Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated Southington at home in the first round of states with a score of 3-1.

“They were definitely a strong team and very well coached,” junior captain Celia Martzolf said. “[They] did give us some trouble especially with their serves.” Darien won the first two games, but then the third proved to be more difficult. “In the third game we let up a bit and they took that opportunity winning the third game 22-25, but the team did really well coming back into the fourth game and beat Southington 25-13,” Martzolf said.

Cheering from the sidelines were the volleyball super fans, decked out in all black. “It is so exciting to watch, it’s a really cool sport. They work so hard—I love coming out to support them, and we have really good cheers!” senior Claire Hilton said. Come support the team as they take on Fairfield Ludlowe at 4:00 on Saturday, November 9th, in the Darien High School main gym!
