Girls Hockey Returns Stronger Than Ever

by Isabelle Perticone

It’s that time of year again: the weather is colder, the sun is shyer, and the hockey season has returned. Darien High School’s Girls Hockey team holds a very promising season this year. The girls look forward to their first game not only because it will be against longtime rivals New Canaan, but also because “It will be our first time playing New Canaan without Olivia Hompe ever, so it will be interesting to see how our mental preparation differs,” senior captain Shannon Hall said. According to fellow senior captain Ellie Bennett, “It will test our team too because it’s a huge game and it will be our first game together.” The girls have six new players, five freshmen and one sophomore. “I am excited to see how they work into our lineup. We have a huge amount of potential,” Bennett said. Their team is very young with only three seniors, and the captains still consider themselves the “underdogs”, determined to prove themselves this season. Hall encourages all students to come to the season opening game because “Blue Wave Pride, you gotta support.”

Their opening game is against New Canaan on December 11th at Darien Ice Rink at 6 o’clock. Show some Blue Wave Pride and go to the game!
