Junior Avery Maley Talks Girls Varsity Basketball

by Caroline McKay

Last year the Girls Basketball Team had its first season with a new coaching staff, and the girls “didn’t really know what to expect at first,” junior Avery Maley said. Right away, though, the girls came out strong. They qualified for both FCIACs and States with 12 wins and 8 losses.

Maley shared that her favorite thing about playing basketball is “the team aspect of it.” She adds, “It’s a game where you have to work together and while doing that you get really close to your team.”

This season the team is scheduled to play some tough competition right away, which Maley says “only motivates us more in practice.” The girls’ first goal is to start another season out strong with a win over Westhill. Maley adds, “Overall I think everyone is really excited for the season and looking forward to becoming a close team again!” Best of luck to the Girls Basketball Team this year!
