Darien Baseball defeats New Canaan in Major FCIAC Clash

The Darien boys baseball team defeated New Canaan 6-1 in a game that held major FCIAC tournament implications. The Blue Wave entered the game with only one loss in FCIAC play, while New Canaan entered the game with only two losses in FCIAC play.

Darien pitcher Stephen Barston was on the mound for the Blue Wave, and pitched another spectacular game, only allowing one run over a complete game with a total of four strikeouts. Barston has been dominant all year long, even though he entered the year as a relatively unknown pitcher to some. He now owns a record of 6-1 over the course of this season. On the offensive side of the ball, senior Anthony DiMeglio had 2 RBIs, while senior George Reed and a single RBI. Darien also got major help from New Canaan's poor defensive play, as the Rams racked up a total of seven errors on the defensive side of the ball. Darien pulled away during the top of the seventh inning, when they gained three unearned runs thanks to the New Canaan defense.

Darien will now face off against Norwalk for the #1 seed in the FCIAC tournament. Darien leads Norwalk by one game for the #1 seed, and the two teams meet Friday in Norwalk.
