On Wednesday, December 14th, the Girls Varsity Hockey team lost to 2016 State Championship runner-up, East Catholic. For the first two periods the teams were tied 0-0. However, in the third period, East Catholic finally broke through, scoring twice. Unfortunately, Darien was unable to recover after this. Despite the team’s loss, Darien goalie, Emily Gianunzio, played exceptionally well. Senior captain Cassidy Schiff reflecting on Gianunzio’s performance said, “our goalie Emily Gianunzio played extremely well today and the score would have been very different if she wasn’t on her game.” According to Schiff, “these tough state games are good preparation for the FCIAC games that we have coming up soon. The competition helps us prepare and tells us what we need to work on."
Come watch and cheer on the Girl’s Hockey team this Wednesday against Trumbull!
