DHS Senior Athletes’ “PENN”-ding Commitments Now Official

By Darius Majd:

It has been no secret that the University of Pennsylvania is a popular destination for DHS students. Since the start of the school year, Darien athletes from a variety of sports have made their desires clear by making verbal commitments to UPenn. As of 3pm on Friday (12/10) these commitments have been replaced by official acceptance letters. Here are the seniors who received the good news:

Leslie Gill a key member of the dominant field hockey team that won its fourth straight state championship and maintained its nation-best winning streak this year, will attend the Wharton School of Business. Leslie will study economics. But she will be playing squash, not field hockey, in college. Leslie’s twin sister Madeleine – another key field hockey player – is headed to Stanford, where she too will be playing squash. (both pictured above, Leslie, right)

Alex Iqbal, also a member of the field hockey team, will attend Wharton.

Parker Lange, a rower at Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk, will be taking his mad flow down to Penn to be a part of its crew team. He too has been accepted into Wharton.

Alexandra Ashcraft will be part of the diving team at Penn. Unlike her counterparts, Ashcraft said she preferred admittance into the College of Arts and Sciences: “Since I have so many academic interests, I do not know what I want to study in college. I thought that the school within Penn that would best fit my need to explore my different interests was the College of Arts and Sciences.”
