Blue Wave Football Drenches The Cardinals

By Colin Flynn
On Saturday night, the Darien Blue Wave Football team travelled up to Greenwich to face the birds under the lights.  The matchup was considered to be one of the biggest games of the year in both the FCIAC and the state, the number one and two seeds respectively.  Darien fell behind early in the game, but with the likes of Juniors Colin Minicus and Tim Graham, the Blue Wave were able to pull ahead.  Graham threw Minicus a perfect pass, and Minicus was able to make a spectacular catch for a thirty-five yard touchdown.  The thunder and lightening duo, made up of Senior Peter Archey and Junior Shelby Grant, scored a combined three touchdowns on the night.
The Defense came together in the second half; as Senior’s George Reed and Jack Tyrell were able to stuff Fordham commit Austin Longi of Greenwich.  To cap off the win, Junior Tyler Grant ended all hopes of a comeback for Greenwich with an  interception late in the fourth quarter.  Tyrell said after the game, “It was tough at first to stop him, he’s fast and agile, but the defense came together, and destroyed his run game.”
Check out Darien’s next game, at the DHS stadium this Saturday, at 1:30pm.
