Ski Team preseason has officially started this year led by head coach, Mr. Brian Zeyer. The boy’s captains this year are Juniors Will McCoy, Chris Brophy and Andy Mogenson. Girl’s captains are Senior Kailin Edgar, Junior Fay Rizzuto and one more who will be named as the season progresses.
So what exactly does preseason
entail? Usually it’s pretty easy going. The team runs from Darien High School
to Middlesex Middle School and partakes in a variety of activities such as
lifting weights in the weight room and playing mat ball or dodge ball in one of
the gyms. The team then runs all the way back to the High School. This kind of
"dryland" training usually goes right up to Christmas break.
The
real season starts when the team takes buses up to Woodbury, Connecticut to
practice or up to Southington to compete, both of which are only about an hour
away. The girls’ team had a lot of good skiers
graduate last year, so this season will be tougher than previous years,
especially if there are not enough recruits. The team in general has made it to
states four times in the past four years and they hope to make this their fifth
year running. There was no comment made
towards how the boy’s team will do this year. DHS wishes both teams the best
when the season begins and the Blue Wave Sports Blog will keep you posted with
results throughout the season.
