Yesterday, September 20th, 2013, the Darien High School Boys Soccer team lost to the Fairfield Ludlowe Falcons in excruciating fashion, 3-0. The first half started off on a bad foot for the Blue Wave, when a Ludlowe shot stopped by sophomore goalie Liam Rischmann ended up rolling in with some odd front-spin. The first 45 minutes also provided several chances for the Blue Wave, mostly off counterattacks (started well by sophomore Jack Kniffin) and solid set-pieces taken by junior captain and center back Henrik Stockinger. Junior forward Kai Bjornstad got the crowd going with some wonderful footwork near the touch line and followed it up with a solid cross that the Blue Wave unfortunately couldn't put home. The second half proved slightly more uneventful; Stockinger's penalty kick, placed nicely into the bottom right corner, was saved by the Ludlowe keeper. Later on, the Falcons scored two more goals, including a penalty of their own, to solidify the win, giving them a 3-1 record thus far in the season. "Overall, it was a tough loss. We had plenty of chances and just couldn't finish," junior center back John Mackie said.
Go and see if the Blue Wave can find their first win of the season against Fairfield Warde, next Monday, the 23rd.
