The Darien High
School Girls Varsity Field Hockey team set the bar high after its scrimmages
against Taft, Hotchkiss, and Greenwich Academy this week. The girls won each
game; 4-0, 2-1, and 2-0, respectively.
“We did a great job of connecting and
passing with each other. We have a good sense of the field and it was the first
time in a while that we capitalized on our corners.” Said senior captain,
Jackie Brokaw (pictured above). The team is striving to beat old rivals this
year and to push the level of play up a bar, “After our success in the
preseason I think we want to carry on and try to beat some of the strongest
teams like Lakeland, Greenwich, New Canaan, and of course
our biggest competition Wilton” continued Brokaw. Even with a large increase in
younger players “We are trying to all work toward repeating the success we had
last season” added Brokaw.
The team’s next game
will be against Stamford on Wednesday (9/11) at 4 o’clock at the DHS stadium. Show
some blue wave pride and support the girls’ first real game of the season.
