Last Tuesday, September 17th, the
Girls Cross Country team took on Ridgefield, Ludlowe, Harding, and Trumbull at
Ridgefield High School. The course was a full 5000 meters (3.1 miles) around
the school, on the fields, and in the woods. The girls were not able to defeat
the 2012 Girls FCIAC Champion team Ridgefield, but they were victorious over
Harding, Ludlowe, and Trumbull giving them a record of 6 wins and 2 losses. “We
had a strong performance against Connecticut’s third ranked team, Ridgefield,”
Coach Stephen Norris said.
Junior Anne Johnston finished first
for Darien and was followed by junior Erika Osherow, and senior captain Alex
Ford. “It was a good race for all of us. The weather was great and it was a
good performance for the second meet of the season. I can’t wait to see how
everything comes together later,” Johnston said.
Darien’s
next meet is this Tuesday, September 24th at St. Joes. The varsity
team will be heading up to the RI Ocean State Invite on September 28th.
With two meets done and quite a few left before FCIACS, the team’s development
is looking good.
