On Monday, November 11th the Darien Boys Junior Varsity football team took on Harding’s JV team. The game started at 4:00pm on Harding’s grass field.
It was a close game; both teams came out hard with good defense stopping any and all scoring options. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie. But Darien came out hard in the second quarter. Sophomore Rock Stewart scored the first touchdown of the game and Darien led 7-0. But soon after Darien scored, Harding got a touchdown, yet missed their extra point, making the score 7-6. Before the quarter ended, sophomore Christian Trifone scored Darien’s second touchdown putting them up by 8 points and making the score 14-6, the score at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter, there were no scores for either team, keeping the score at 14-6 Darien. When the fourth quarter started, Harding came out stronger than Darien scoring two touch downs. They were leading by four points, with a score of 14-18. But Darien’s sophomore Hudson Hamill turned the game around scoring two touchdowns. Hamill lead Darien to a 28-18 win against Harding.
Sophomore Tyler Grant said, “We had a rough beginning because our defense played soft, but in the second half we really turned around and came out strong, which led to our win.”
Darien’s Junior Varsity football team has had an undefeated season so far. Their next game is against North Haven on Saturday, November 16th at 10:30am at the Vanacore Field in New Haven, CT.
