On Friday, November 14, 2013, the Darien High School’s
Varsity football team took on North Haven. The game was the biggest of the year
thus far for both teams all for one reason: the winner of the game qualified
for states and the losing team’s chance at making states would be most likely
destroyed. Darien faced a strong team and was also on the road, but at the end
of the game Darien came out on top, winning 36-27.
North Haven
started off strong, leading 20-9, and it looked like they were beginning to run
away with the lead, but as they kicked off, Nick Lombardo returned the kick for
a touchdown, creating a major momentum swing. Touchdowns came from seniors Nick
Lombardo (2), Miles Ridder, Jay Harrison, and John Reed. Daly Hebert also sank
a long field goal to start off the game. “It was a tough game, but we came out
on top,” senior Jay Harrison said. Come watch Darien’s next game versus New
Canaan at Dunning Field (New Canaan High School) at 10:30 on Thanksgiving Day.
