On Thursday April 3rd, the DHS Varsity Rugby team had
their first game of the season against Staples High School. It is the team's second
year playing at the varsity level and they have a lot of new players on
the team, including junior star James Fox. Senior James Foster said, “A lot of kids were getting on the field
for the first time after all of our preseason scrimmages this year had been
cancelled.” Within the first few minutes of the game, Staples scored, which gave
them some momentum. Foster also said, “All of our guys played one
of the hardest teams I’ve ever seen against a tough 15 from Staples.” Darien
scored off of an athletic interception and run to the try zone by senior Zachary Basu,
which left the final score at 35-7. The team's next game will be on Wednesday, April
9th against Amity High School in Woodbridge, CT at 4.45pm. All rugby
home games are located at Royal Elementary School.
