On Friday April 11, the Boys Varsity Baseball team started
off the season with its first game away in Wilton. The boys dominated Wilton,
winning 8-1. This victory will provide the team with some great momentum going
into the rest of the season.
Overall, the whole team had great chemistry and everyone
played well. Key performances came from junior George Reed and senior Andrew
Nault. Reed, a second-year varsity
starter and a third baseman, hit a home run in the fourth inning and had 5
RBI’s. Nault pitched 6 innings, allowing only 1 run. Senior Brendan Donohue pitched
1 inning in relief of Nault and closed out the game. Senior Daly Hebert, a
designated hitter, had 2 RBI’s. The team ended with a substantial win of 8-1.
The season also started off with some great enthusiasm. The
baseball team is known for having a pretty quiet bench, but with the new
explosion of excitement brought by junior Danny Siemers and senior Ames Murray),
the bench has been louder than ever, truly bringing out the best in every
player. On the bench, the team used a cowbell, had various clapping cheers, and
had extremely interesting chants. Most chants were led by Juniors Tj
Adiletta and Craig Miller.
“If this season opener is a sign of things to come, then the
rest of the season should be a lot of fun, with the playoff picture in mind,“
says junior Peter Archey, a left fielder. “Although we have a young team with
only two starting seniors, we play seasoned veterans out on the field. The team
has no issues with chemistry since we’ve all been playing with each other since
back in Little League."
Come support the team in the next game on Monday, April 14th,
against Fairfiled Ludlowe. As Ludlowe always proves to be a difficult task, the
team hopes it can get a good student section for this game to push the players
to victory.
