The Blue Wave lacrosse team took on the Mustangs of Fairfield
Warde on Tuesday, April 23rd on the DHS Stadium Turf. The first half
of this game was much closer than projected; solid play from the Fairfield
Warde goalie kept the Mustangs in the game, but the Blue Wave led 4-2 at
halftime with senior captain Kyle Cornell leading the way. Darien turned it up
a notch in the second half and became the team fans have seen throughout the
season against tough teams like Niskayuna and Manhasset. The Blue Wave scored
four unanswered goals to start the second half, and never looked back from that
point. Cornell continued his stellar play throughout the game and ended up with
a game-high four goals, which ultimately guided the team to a 12-5 victory.
After the game, senior captain Brad McCarthy said, “We didn’t start the game
the way we wanted to, but in the second half the offense really turned it
around and we came away with a good W.”
Come support the boys in their next home game against rival
New Canaan on Saturday, May 3rd at 3:00 pm.
Senior Brad McCarthy has been the leader of the Blue Wave's solid defense this season. |
