On Wednesday, April 9th, the Blue Wave Boys Lacrosse team
took on Trinity Catholic to open up the season. The game was played at home on
the stadium turf field. Prior to the game, Darien had played and defeated many
great teams in preseason scrimmages, meaning that the Blue Wave came in as
heavy favorites. Once the game ended, it was clear that the team definitely lived
up to those expectations.
Coming into the game, Darien was not even ranked in the top
ten Northeast teams on Under Armour’s Inside Lacrosse Regional Rankings. It has
been said that being underestimated only fuels the metaphorical fire, and the
outcome of this game backed that theory up. Darien ended up winning by a score
of 22-0! On top of the lopsided score, Darien also had a total of 56 shots on
net compared to Trinity Catholic’s zero shots on net.
All players on the field for the Blue Wave saw the result as
a success, and thought it was a great way for the team to open up the season. “The
game went really well. It was our first time getting out there in a game-type
atmosphere and I think we responded well. We were able to make plays all over the
field and control the tempo,” senior John Reed said.
Hat tricks came from four players: senior captain Kyle
Cornell, sophomore Colin Minicus, senior John Reed, and senior Peter Lindley.
On top of that, the team was also very strong on defense. “I’d say it was utter
domination and there was almost no competition,” senior Aidan Braningan said.
Come watch the Boys Lacrosse team as they take on Niskayuna
on Saturday at DHS at 3:00. Niskayuna is undefeated and will be representing
the state of New York as these two out-of-state teams meet.
