This
past Wednesday, September 10, the Blue Wave Field Hockey team faced off
Ridgefield in a 60-minute game. It was Wave’s first game of the season so
stakes were high. Ridgefield came out very strong and had multiple players who
were both fast and were able to maintain good possession of the ball. Fortunately, the
Blue Wave defense was able to keep their opponents from scoring. Aiding the defense,
junior Kaeleigh Morill kept the ball out of the goal cage; she played a very
aggressive and smart game. All of her clears were out wide, she never hesitated
to step up on Ridgefield’s offense, and her communication was consistent.
The game was scoreless until
the last four minutes of the first period junior Georgia Cassidy received a
pass and took it to goal. She pulled around three Ridgefield defensemen and
took a reverse shot on the goal, putting the Wave ahead 1-0. Then ten minutes into
the second period Cassidy received the ball once again from a teammate; pulled
around the goalie and fired the ball into the back of the net, making it 2-0 Darien. After that goal, there was no turning back as the girls not only opened the season with a win, but held Ridgefield scoreless to get the clean sheet.
When asked about
the game senior Erinn Ravosa said, “This first game was a great learning
experience for the team. We just watched the footage yesterday, which enabled
us to pinpoint what we have to work on. As the season picks up, we will
definitely sharpen our skills and hone in on what we can do better.”
Check out BWFH as they take on the fourth ranked in the nation Lakeland HS Saturday, at 3:00pm.
